چکیده
A 57-year-old man presented with increasing respiratory distress. Chest radiography (Figure 1) and computed tomography (Figure 2) confirmed the diagnosis of a huge lung bulla. Bullectomy was performed (Figure 3). Subsequently, the remaining lung expanded fully to fill the hemithorax. On follow-up after 7 years, the patient was asymptomatic with fully expanded lung without any bulla. متن کاملDetection of lung cancer using CT images based on novel PSO clustering
Lung cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases that cause a large number of deaths. Early detection and analysis can be very helpful for successful treatment. Image segmentation plays a key role in the early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer. K-means algorithm and classic PSO clustering are the most common methods for segmentation that have poor outputs. In t...
متن کاملTransbronchial decompression of emphysematous bullae: a new therapeutic approach.
Bullae are common accompaniments of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease especially emphysema. They contribute to increased lung volume and worsen the mechanical disadvantage of the inspiratory muscles by increasing the residual volume (RV) and RV/total lung capacity ratio. Thus effective decompression of a large bulla or bullae is thus important to improve the lung function of affected patien...
متن کاملRapid-growth lung cancer associated with a pulmonary giant bulla: a case report.
A giant bulla of the lung is suggested as a risk factor for lung cancer. Here we report a case with lung cancer in a giant bulla, which showed rapid progression. A 57-year-old man, who had a history of heavy smoking, was admitted to our hospital due to hemoptysis. A chest X-ray revealed a giant bulla with a ground glass shadow and a high fluid level in the right upper lung. Sputum cytology was ...

Giant bulla; Pneumothorax; Anaesthesia management; Spontaneous breathing; Dexmedetomidine Abstract Lung bulla occupying more than 30% of hemithorax is described as giant bulla which is now treated surgically with positive outcomes. During intraoperative period, these patients are vulnerable to hyperinflation, hypoxia and hypercarbia due to significantly increased dead space and reduced function...
